Kitesurfing championships at Watergate Bay
See the best kitesurfers leap, somersault and turn across the surf under their 40ft kites. Get there early and watch it from the beach bar, the Watergate Bay Hotel terrace or from Jamie Olivers restaurant "Fifteen".

Bolster Day procession, pageant and festivities
Legend has it that long ago in the Parish of St. Agnes there lived a giant of a man called Bolster. Like all Cornish giants he was bad tempered, self centred and a bane on the lives of the villagers and his long suffering wife.
May 1st
Obby Oss Day, Padstow
One of Cornwalls most celebrated events. Obby Oss celebrations for May Day is a lively day out, starting early in th emorning and carrying on through the day. The Padstow Obby Oss is reputed to be the oldest dance festival in the country. Lively & colorful, the dancing procession celebtrates the retun of the Celtic sun god. Celebrate with them & then come back to th epeace & quiet of Mawgan Porth
2nd - 4th May
English National Surfing Championships, Watergate Bay
Professional surfers strutting and preening to win national titles in the English National Championships in events from the prestigious (Open) to the obscure (Kneeboard, Stand-Up Paddlesurf).

Battle of Stamford Hill, Bude
Battle of Stamford Hill Each year, the re-enactment of the Battle of Stamford Hill excites both residents and visitors to the area. Members of the Sealed Knot Society keep the traditions of the English Civil War alive by re-enacting many of the major battles across the UK and honouring the fallen of those battles by laying wreaths at memorials. The premier annual event of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association. A wide range of agricultural & non-agricultural displays; exhibits; and all the accompanying stalls, stands and entertainment

Zapcat surf speedboat championships at Watergate Bay

Longboard Surf championships at Watergate bay
Easy-going, stylish, mellow surfing ideal for laid-back beach barbeques sizzling and ubiquitous sunshine it’s a wonder they manage to run this top-level longboard surf contest at all. Nothing less than 9ft boards are permissible; other than that, anything goes.

 

July 2009

 

11th July
Surf Rowers Summer competition
Under the banner of authentic Aussie beach culture,burly men (and women) don speedos and singlets to pit themselves against the ocean. Teams of four, guided by their sweep (helmsperson), race their surfboats out through the breaking surf and, all being well, catch a wave back in again. Not as easy as it looks.
18th July
A one day family-friendly beach festival to benefit the charity Surf Relief UK.
This event really has it all: a pro surfing competition, surf lifesaving tournament, beach games, family activities, all rounded of with the Sunset Sessions, a live music festival taking place right on the sand.

Polo on Watergate Bay Beach
There’s nothing quite like Polo on the Beach. Good bloodstock, great harmonies and some impressive sets of teeth can all be found on the beach in this exhibition match of top-level polo in a truly unique setting.
25th & 26th September
Zapcat surf speedboat championship finals, Watergate Bay
